DIY: Wire Name Necklace

Recently I began making wire jewelry after seeing these adorable rings on one of my favorite DIY blogs.  As soon as I started working with the wire, an image of the "Carrie" necklace from Sex and the City popped into my mind and I decided to try a "Jaylen" necklace.  To my surprise and relief after a bit of trial and error the result turned out to be pretty fantastic. It was a little difficult to capture the actual wire manipulating with the camera but I documented each letter :) If you want to try to make your own, which I suggest you do, keep reading to see each step!

Gather your supplies: Wire, round nose pliers (These also have a wire cutter built in.  You will need a wire cutter or something sharp to cut the wire) a writing utensil, chain, jump rings and a clasp

Write out your name or whatever word you would like.  You will use this as a guide while you making your name with the wire.

Use your fingers and pliers to bend and twist the wire into the desired letter and continue until all letters are completed.  This may take several attempts but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy. As a rule of thumb: use your fingers to create large loops and curves, and the pliers to create small and tight bends.

Once the name is completed clip any excess wire and use the pliers to make a small loop at the end of the loose wire.  Next attach attach jump rings, chain and clasp, using the pliers to open and close the jump rings and links on the chain. And you're done! So who's making a necklace?!

  6. You are obviously talented as I doubt most people could follow your directions and end up with a similar outcome! I have a traditional Carrie name necklace that I wear all the time. All the girls in our family love their name necklaces!
